The performer places a small dictionary and a deck of cards on the table. "I'm going to show you something Impossible", he says. The spectator names any card. (Assume the card is the Ace of Clubs). The performer picks up the deck, fans it and removes the Ace of Clubs. The card is placed, in full view, "Remember," the performer says, "that I told you---before we started, before you named a card--that I was going to show you something 'impossible'. To make sure that there is no argument about just what the word impossible means, I've brought a dictionary along." The dictionary is opened to the word impossible and turns the dictionary around so the spectators can see the printed page. The word impossible has been outlined with a heavy black line. There is no writing on any of the other pages. The performer shows the faces and backs of the remaining cards to reveal nothing--He then picks up the Ace of Clubs and turns it over to reveal the word "Impossible."
